We have recently written about the one 3x3x3 metres house. This time we would like to feature one more house with the same dimensions. It has been designed by a Tokyo-based studio Sschemata Architecture Office Ltd. and titled PACO.
From the outside, PACO is a compact twenty-seven cubic metres white box. But, despite its tiny dimensions, the authors managed to pack it with all necessary furniture and equipment. The secret is in its transforming multi-functional internal space. According to owners’ needs, its only room could act as a kitchen, living room, bedroom or a bathroom with a shower and toilet. In order to have a meal or to work you need to take out a table from hidden space beneath the floor. One more hidden space houses a toilet and a shower. To turn the toilet into the shower you only need to hang a special curtain from the ceiling. When they are not in use, they could be concealed. The architects thought that a usual bed would occupy too much space and replaced it with a hammock. Beneath the floor, there is an additional sleeping space for guests (for those who are not suffering from claustrophobia) and a storage area that become available after taking out the table.
One of the most distinguishing features of PACO is the way it interacts with the environment. First of all, PACO has an opening roof. Moving up and down by two hydraulic cylinders, it allows you to choose whether to sleep under the roof or under the stars. The location of the kitchen allows using it as an outdoor barbeque area if you open the side door. What is important about PACO is that it is a self-contained house that functions with a minimum impact on the environment. It is powered by solar and wind energy, recycles water and has a biodegradable toilet.
PACO is available in four versions. PLAN D is the basic version that you can customize to your needs. It includes only a skeleton for 4,200,000 yen. PLAN C features epoxy painted floor and energy-efficient LED lighting for 4,725,000. PLAN B features a kitchen, epoxy painted floor and energy-efficient LED lighting for 5,250,000. A fully equipped PLAN A with a kitchen, shower, toilet, epoxy painted floor and energy-efficient LED lighting is offered to buy for 6,300,000 yen.
