Swedish Architects Created Series of Leaf Pools to Enjoy Autumn Leaves

Autumn is a beautiful time of year. As the light decreases and the temperature drops, deciduous trees create an amazing spectacle of colors. Leaves turn yellow, red, and violet, and then fall on the ground. To enjoy this great annual spectacle of leaf drop, the Stockholm-based architecture practice Ulf Mejergren Architects (UMA) has created a series of enclosures for leaves that they called the leaf pools.

Visitors can immerse in these pools and play with the leaves, getting maximum enjoyment from this temporary nature gift. The architects developed two types of enclosures — with wooden sticks and with a metal mesh. The wooden sticks give a sturdy feeling to the pool, making it possible to also sit on the edge. The metal mesh, on the other hand, exposes the leaves better and can be installed much faster.
