‘Metalmorphosis’ is a giant dynamic sculpture 30 feet high, located by the main fa?ade of the business centre ‘Whitehall’ in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the first permanent public construction in USA by a Czech sculptor David Cerny.

The sculpture is composed of several rotating metal plates which form a giant head with a fountain in its mouth. The head could rotate as whole as well as the plates could rotate independently, transforming the head into an abstract moving shape. Really impressive show!

It took fourteen tons of stainless steel to produce this sculpture. A special computer program operates the motion of every plate. The interesting thing about this program is that the author himself could watch over the sculpture on the Internet and even make necessary changes in its motion. There is also a live camera that allows every person to watch a twenty-four-hour transmission of the head on this website.
