The Vanual, or How to Convert an Old Rusty Van into a Mobile Home

If you have an old cargo van and want to transform it into a mobile home you should probably visit The Vanual – a website created by a young American filmmaker Zach Both where he step-by-step described how he turned his rusty Chevy Express into a functional livable campervan with a sofa bed and a kitchenette.

The story began in the fall of 2014 when Both quit his full-time job as an art director and returned to his lifelong passion for filmmaking. Dreaming of embarking on a creative road show, he purchased a used Chevy Express from an electrician. ‘What followed for the months afterwards was unexpected,’ Both explains. ‘Instead of finding myself behind a camera, I spent my days behind various power tools, partaking in a different, but still satisfying form of artistic expression. True to my nature I became obsessed with the project. Ultimately this obsession lead to the creation of a website called The Vanual – a record of what I had built and learned along the way.’
