The Valencia-based design studio Lavernia & Cienfuegos has designed a chocolate bar and packaging for the Spanish chocolate brand Utopick. Inspired by the fact that the Utopick’s chocolate makers package their batches by hand, the designers created a unique way of folding the paper to wrap the bars.
The paper folds to create two triangles on the front side of the packaging, each with their own color and texture, personalizing every bar. The packaging opens and closes in a way that makes it easy to rewrap the chocolate, making it look untouched (it is well known that some people prefer to keep their chocolate addiction secret). This design is also reflected on the chocolate bars inside, which are pre-cut into big triangles and feature the same patterns.
The existing symbol of Utopick – a ship embodying the spirit of adventure and representing the long voyage the cocoa pods make to reach the Chocolatier – was also modified by the studio. Engaged in the task of how to package the chocolate, the designers created a new symbol that reflects the new design of the brand – an origami boat.
