Inspired by the old physics books with diagrams and illustrations of scientific experiments in engraving style, the young Belarusian graphic designer Angelina Pischikova has created the light bulb packaging for CS, the largest electrical company in Belarus. The design features the detailed illustrations of insects and special openings in the boxes that open off the light bulbs, making them an essential part of the insects’ bodies.
Angelina Pischikova: ‘Edison dreamed of creating a light bulb of cold light. He’s been looking at the fireflies and believed that this could be made by a human sometime. We were inspired by the textbooks on physics and entomologies almanacs of the early XX century. That is why we combined the idea of a modern “cold light bulbs” and images of insects. Simple electrical circuit’s graphics, monotonous illustration and clean backgrounds – all this made to focus on the product. The diverse shapes of light bulbs fit perfectly into the silhouettes of insect’s bodies.’
This work has recently won the Silver Lion at the 2017 Cannes Lions Festival, and by the way it is the first Lion for Belarus in the past 12 years.
