Martin Molin, a 33 years old musician of a Swedish band Wintergatan, has designed and assembled an amazing musical instrument that he titled Marble Machine. The wooden device is actually a giant complicated music box which features several traditional instruments: a vibraphone, kick drum, snare drum, hi-hat, and electric bass guitar. It is operated by a hand crank that cycles and lifts 2,000 steel marbles up to the top so they can roll down and make the instruments sound.
Molin planned to spend two months on the project. However, it took fourteen months to finish the work. ‘The closer the machine gets to be finished the harder it gets to finish it,’ Molin said. ‘It is strange how that happens, when the finish line is in sight, everything slows down automatically except the avalanche of new unforeseen problems.’
