SPAR supermarket extension in Gmunden by archinauten

An Austrian architecture practice archinauten has designed an extension of SPAR supermarket in the centre of the town Gmunden, Austria. Utilizing the location of the plot (the building is situated on the bank of the lake Traunsee), the architects came up with the idea of integrating a bench in one of the exterior walls so that people can relax and enjoy the panorama of the lake or any performances that can take place here. At the same time, this solution attracts potential customers to the supermarket that is undoubtedly good for the client.

There are some details regarding the structure of the bench: the whole wall is assembled of precast concrete sections; each section houses built in light that illuminates the immediate vicinity and gives the place a special quality at night. The form of the bench is made slightly bent to make it cosy and reminiscent of a traditional alcove.
